Insomnia Cookies: a group show in Palermo on love (hetero and homosexual), from Ontani to Lüthi

The Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum in Palermo is hosting the group show Insomnia cookies from June 15 to July 15, 2019. The exhibition, curated by Antonio Leone and Paola Nicita, presents works by Urs Lüthi, Luigi Ontani, Lovett&Codagnone, Cesare Viel, Yamada Hanako & Alex Hai, Paolo Angelosanto, Rita Casdia,Yasumasa Morimura and Matteo Basilè.

Insomnia cookies is included in the Visual Arts section of the ninth edition of Sicilia Queer filmfest and starts from a reflection on the theme of the encounter with the other, as an encounter with oneself and a way of exploration: through a selection of international artists famous for their research oriented in this sense, the exhibition wants to narrate the multiple declinations of love, affirming its universal necessity that arises from subjective experiences.

At the same time, a narrative that wants to reflect on the search and exploration of one’s own identity, understood both as an expression of the visibility of Lgbt people (as a political act that claims the expression of one’s own existence) but also as a search for one’s own authenticity, or simply an exploration of one’s own desire.

It is the artist’s body that is the subject/object of this search, which becomes a field of inquiry, a territory to be probed, a space of possibility that escapes the castrating definitions of categories that mortify and demean the experience of a sincere dialogue with one’s self, with one’s drives, inclinations and desires. A dialectical game through which questions about one’s identity remain open, to be understood as spaces of possibility, places from happening, crossings - real, ideal or presumed, but never binding.

Insomnia cookies is produced by Sicilia Queer filmfest and Coordinamento Palermo Pride, in collaboration with Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum and ruber.contemporanea. Thanks to Collicaligreggi Gallery (Catania), PACK Gallery (Milan), Nuvole Incontri d’Arte (Palermo), Roberto Bilotti Ruggi d’Aragona and Rosario Perricone.
