From March 16 to June 18, 2023, the Mart in Rovereto is dedicating an exhibition-focus on Fausto Pirandello, a great painter of the 20th century whose two important works,Composition and Nude in Perspective, both made in 1923, are preserved at the museum.

Through fifty works and a thematic layout, the exhibition entitled Fausto Pirandello. The Drama of Painting, curated by Manuel Carrera and Daniela Ferrari from an idea by Vittorio Sgarbi, emphasizes the introspective nature of the artist’s research. Iconic works such as Bathers, Women and Salamander and the famous portrait to his father Luigi, Nobel laureate in literature, are located in the rooms of the museum venue.

Throughout his career, Fausto Pirandello moved from the analytical language of Nordic ancestry to the cubist and abstract decomposition of the postwar period; from the expressionism of the years of the “Roman School” to the return, in his mature period, of an exaggerated representation of humanity. Considered by critics to be a precursor, Pirandello anticipates certain aspects of painting in the second half of the 20th century, from Lucian Freud to contemporary figurative artists.
