Masterpieces from the Cavallini Sgarbi Foundation on display at the Castello dei Clavesana in Andora (Savona)

Starting August 10, 2026, the Clavesana Castle in Andora (Savona) will host “Figures of Women: Art Treasures from the Cavallini Sgarbi Foundation,” an exhibition that traces more than four centuries of depictions of women through paintings and sculptures from the collection.

Starting August 10, 2026, the Clavesana Castle—also known as Paraxo and overlooking the Borgo Castello hill in Andora, in the province of Savona—will host *Figures of Women: Art Treasures from the Cavallini Sgarbi Foundation*, an exhibition dedicated to the female figure in the history of Italian art.

The exhibition brings together, for the first time, a thematic selection of thirty-five works—including paintings and sculptures—from the Cavallini Sgarbi Collection, which has been declared to be of exceptional historical and artistic interest and is protected by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities pursuant to a decree of the Regional Commission for Cultural Heritage of Emilia-Romagna dated June 4, 2019, issued in accordance with Articles 10–13 of Legislative Decree 42/2004.

The exhibition is curated by Vittorio Sgarbi and the historian and art critic Pietro Di Natale, director of the Ferrara Arte Foundation, under the supervision of Elisabetta Sgarbi on behalf of the Cavallini Sgarbi Foundation. The project is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Andora and the Borgo Castello Foundation, while the official catalog will be published by La nave di Teseo.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey spanning over four centuries of art history, from the 16th century to the early 20th century. Through works from different eras and artistic styles, the exhibition aims to prompt reflection on the evolution of the representation of women in the Western artistic imagination, highlighting the succession of aesthetic, symbolic, and cultural models.

The historic Clavesana Castle reopens to the public specifically for this exhibition as a new museum hub, thanks to the pilot project for urban, “Remembering the Past to Build the Future,” promoted by the Municipality of Andora and funded by the Ministry of Culture through resources from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
