MAXXI in Rome celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhibition

An exhibition celebrating its first 10 years is coming to MAXXI in Rome on November 25: an opportunity to reflect on the museum's identity.

In 2020, MAXXI Rome celebrates its first 10 years: an opportunity to reflect on the museum’s identity, retrace the journey made and set up the future. The exhibition A History for the Future. Ten Years of MAXXI, which explores 5 major themes, was born out of passionate research, reflection and debate, and casts its gaze on the first decade of the 21st century through the point of view of MAXXI and the artists who have animated and transformed it. It is not meant to be a self-referential summary of the museum’s exhibitions, but an “immaterial” rereading of them from a perspective that lays the foundations of a history for the future.

In a thematic and chronological reading, thousands of images, videos, sounds and words, and multimedia installations are presented. The installation curated by Petra Blaisse’s Dutch studio Inside-Outside, recognized for innovative contributions in exhibition design and landscape architecture, creates an immersive environment focused on the multisensory experience. An oral history of MAXXI’s journey through the presentation of the words of the museum’s artists, curators and staff.

The exhibition opens from November 25, 2020 to August 30, 2021.
