Milan, the largest exhibition on Mario Nigro at Palazzo Reale and the Museo del Novecento

Milan is hosting, at the Palazzo Reale and the Museo del Novecento, the largest exhibition ever dedicated to Mario Nigro, an important artist of the last century who was present at numerous editions of the Venice Biennale.

The widespread exhibition Mario Nigro. Works 1947-1992 promoted by Comune di Milano - Cultura, produced by Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento and Eight Art Project, in collaboration withArchivio Mario Nigro, curated by Antonella Soldaini and Elena Tettamanti, opened on July 14 in the venues of Palazzo Reale (until September 17) and Museo del Novecento (until November 5): is the largest exhibition ever dedicated to Mario Nigro (Pistoia, 1917 - Livorno, 1992) with more than one hundred and forty works from 1947 until the last one in 1992 including paintings, three-dimensional works, on paper and a wide selection of documents. The exhibition also includes works exhibited at the Venice Biennales of 1964, 1968, 1978, 1982, 1986 and at the 10th Quadriennale in Rome in 1973.

The exhibition marks the different moments of Nigro’s artistic language: from an experimental attitude starting in the 1940s to a decided orientation toward abstract and geometric compositional structures.

The artist’s works suggest a recurring narrative horizon based on “rhythm,” “forms,” and “time,” the result of a vision in which knowledge of music and scientific knowledge have a decisive influence.

In collaboration with the PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea a special event will also commemorate July 27, 1993 when a Mafia bombing destroyed the entire exhibition venue and some of Mario Nigro ’s works present for an anthological exhibition of his work.
