Modigliani on display at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa

An exhibition entirely dedicated to Amedeo Modigliani opens tomorrow, March 16, in the Doge's apartment of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa.

From tomorrow, March 16, to July 16, 2017, the Doge’s apartment at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa will host a series of works by Amedeo Modigliani in a monographic exhibition designed to take visitors through the artistic life of the Leghorn artist.

The works on display, including paintings and drawings, are divided into eight sections that present the main aspects and themes Modigliani dealt with. The exhibition features portraits of friends, of figures in early 20th-century Paris, including the Portrait of Chaim Soutine (1917), the Portrait of Monsieur Chéron (1915), the Young Man with Red Hair (1919), and the numerous depictions of women, sometimes nude, that were considered scandalous at the time , such as the Lying Nude of 1918.
A particular section is entirely devoted to the friendship between Modigliani and Moise Kisling, made explicit in paintings made by four hands.

The works on display come from major museums such as the Musée de l’Orangerie, the Musée National Picasso in Paris, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the Pinacoteca di Brera, and from European and American collections.

The exhibition is curated by Rudy Chiappini, Dominique Vieville and Stefano Zuffi and is organized and produced by Palazzo Ducale Fondazione per la Cultura and MondoMostre Skira.

The catalog is published by Skira.
