Rome, an exhibition dedicated to Canadian artist Garth Speight at the Villa Torlonia Museums

From October 12, 2019 to January 19, 2020, the exhibition The Garden of Wonders opens. Works by artist Garth Speight in Rome at the Villa Torlonia Museums, Casina delle Civette.

The spirit of the Garden of the Casina delle Civette materializes in 50 acrylic paintings by Canadian artist Garth Speight in which Nature stands out among waterfowl, water lilies, blue and white irises, wildflowers, birch forests and chrysanthemums.

Garth Speight was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, where he earned a degree in Fine Arts from York University. He has lived and worked between Canada andItaly for over 40 years, but has also traveled extensively in various European countries. In his early days in Italy he devoted himself to studying the techniques of medieval painting, producing a series of works devoted to stories from the Bible. To this series belongs the painting The Sacrifice of Isaac, which became part of the Modern Art Collection of the Vatican Museums. Subsequently, the artist worked on new experiences: from Russian and Canadian forests to small villages in Italy and southern France, from the canals and bridges of Venice to the ruins of ancient Rome, from the buildings of a now vanished Toronto to the rooftops and glimpses of Paris, and finally to still lifes. The artist also personally works on the frames so that each is an integral part of the painting. Garth Speight has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in various cities in Italy and America: Rome, Assisi, Salerno, Toronto, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Montreal. His paintings are in private and public collections in Canada, Australia, Africa, China, USA and Europe.

Guided tours, workshops, lectures and concerts are scheduled as part of the exhibition.
