Rome, Kiribati islands in the sculptures of Antonio Fiorentino

From March 19 to July 19, 2019, the Pastificio Cerere Foundation is hosting the exhibition 'Kiribati' by sculptor Antonio Fiorentino.

Fondazione Pastificio Cerere presents Kiribati, a solo exhibition by artist Antonio Fiorentino, curated by Marcello Smarrelli.

From March 19 to July 19, 2019, Antonio Fiorentino will exhibit for the first time a series of works created after his stay between July and August 2018 in the Kiribati Islands, an island state inOceania composed of 33 islands scattered in an area four thousand kilometers wide from east to west and two thousand from north to south. Kiribati lies on the international date change line and is the first state to greet the new dawn, the new day, the new year-somehow it can be said to “be in the future.” But the future of this country is apocalyptic because it is in danger of disappearing forever within a few decades (predicted within 30 to 50 years), as rising seas caused by global warming are gradually submerging the islands’ territory.

On April 15, 2019, to complete the exhibition, a video entitled Kiribati, made by the artist on the island, will be premiered. The video will be exhibited in the Spazio Molini located in the basement of the Pastificio Cerere, which was recently recovered following the renovation of the former pasta factory mill.

The project is realized with the support of MiBAC and SIAE, as part of the Sillumina initiative - Private copies for young people, for culture.
