Rome, MAXXI presents the restoration of two works, a model by Vittorio De Feo and a scroll by Paolo Soleri

MAXXI presents to the public the restoration of two works from the Architecture Collection: the model of the Competition for the Chamber of Deputies from the Archives of Vittorio De Feo (Naples, 1928 - Rome, 2002) and the Space IV scroll by Paolo Soleri (Turin, 1919 - Cosanti, 2013).

At first glance, the two works may seem distant from each other: one (Vittorio De Feo’s model) in wood, the other (Paolo Soleri’s scroll) in paper; one the proposal of an urban project, the other the graphic representation of a utopia; one the product of a working group, the other the result of the choice of isolation of its Author, who retired to Arizona. Yet a common thread draws them together: both parts of the Architecture Collection, they are the physical representation of the design process that runs through the minds of architects; both represent the search for new solutions, alternatives to a world that does not seem satisfactory.

The exhibition Project and Utopia is the result of work carried out during 2019, carried out in collaboration with the Paola Droghetti Foundation, which provided the two scholarships for young graduates, with theISCR (Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro) and theICRCPAL (Istituto Centrale per il Restauro e la Conservazione del Patrimonio Archivistico e Librario), which oversaw the scientific direction of the restoration activities.

A catalog edited by Patrizia Cavalieri, Francesca Romana Liserre and Carla Zhara Buda(Gangemi Editore) accompanies the exhibition.

The exhibition opens from Nov. 13 to Dec. 8.
