The Dep Art Gallery in Milan is presenting an exhibition to mark its 20th anniversary, titled “Dep Art Gallery | 20 Years 2006–2026,” curated by Antonio Addamiano. The exhibition, which opened on June 24, will remain on view through September 19, 2026. The project is conceived as a survey of the gallery’s history rather than a retrospective in the strict sense, featuring a selection of twenty-six artists and twenty-six solo exhibitions that have helped shape its exhibition history. Each artist is represented by a single work, chosen to reflect the continuity and coherence of the gallery’s programming.
The exhibition itinerary is structured around a complex spatial and narrative framework. The opening is marked by a work by Mario Nigro, chosen by founder and director Antonio Addamiano for the gallery’s first exhibition in 2006, held at its Via Giuriati location.
The basement level is dedicated to the gallery’s origins and its earliest programming. Here, works by Alberto Gianquinto, Pino Pinelli, Salvo, Alberto Biasi, and Emilio Scanavino are displayed in chronological order, reflecting the gallery’s early years of activity and the gradual definition of its identity. This level concludes with Pino Pinelli, whose solo exhibition marked the last show held at the historic location on Via Giuriati, serving as a bridge between two phases of the gallery’s programming.
On the upper floor, the narrative continues with the move to the new location on Via Comelico, inaugurated in 2015 with an exhibition by Turi Simeti. From this point on, the exhibition unfolds through the works of additional artists who have accompanied the gallery’s evolution, including Piero Fogliati, Gerold Miller, Alighiero Boetti, Wolfram Ullrich, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Regine Schumann, and Imi Knoebel. The central theme of this section is research into perception, space, matter, and memory—elements that recur throughout the gallery’s curatorial choices.
The exhibition project also highlights the role of collaborations with curators, which have come to be defined over time as an integral part of the gallery’s work. As noted, these collaborations have contributed to the development of a stable relationship based on mutual trust and respect and have influenced the gallery’s programming decisions.
