The Maramotti Collection dedicates two exhibitions to two artists: Emma Talbot and Jenna Gribbon

The new exhibition season at Reggio Emilia's Collezione Maramotti is under the banner of women's art: from Oct. 23 to Feb. 19, one can visit Emma Talbot's "The Age/L'età" and Jenna Gribbon's "Mirages.

In Reggio Emilia, the Maramotti Collection opens a new exhibition season with two exhibitions by two women: The Age/Age by British artist Emma Talbot (Stourbridge, 1969) and Mirages by American artist Jenna Gribbon (Knoxville, 1978). Both exhibitions run from October 23, 2022 to February 19, 2023.

Emma Talbot, winner of the eighth Max Mara Art Prize for Women, in collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery, presents a new body of work at Collezione Maramotti, following a premiere at London’s Whitechapel Gallery. The Age/The Age includes animation, painted and suspended silk panels, three-dimensional works, and drawings. The British artist’s new work explores themes of representation and aging, power and government, and attitudes toward nature. Talbot imagines a future environment in which humanity encounters the disastrous consequences of late capitalism and must look to more ancient and holistic ways of creation and belonging (that rethink ancient power structures and celebrate the natural world) to survive.

Mirages, on the other hand, is the first solo exhibition in a European art institution by U.S. painter Jenna Gribbon, who has designed a new group of ten works specifically for the Collection’s Pattern Room. Gribbon’s figurative paintings draw inspiration from personal memories, art history andeveryday experience, fluidly combining different styles in each piece. The central subject of the works in the exhibition is the artist’s partner, musician Mackenzie Scott (aka TORRES). Gribbon’s protagonist is portrayed in vivid colors and fluid, sensual brushstrokes that almost make her surroundings merge with her body (a body that is reflected, shaped, examined, made larger than life) while experimenting with scales and compositions that are completely new to the artist.
