Venice Biennale 2024, here are who the artists of the national pavilions are (for now)

The program of the Venice Biennale 2024 is becoming increasingly clear. Here are all the names chosen, for the moment, to represent the perspectives of the various countries that will present their works in the national pavilions.

We are only a few months away from the opening of the Biennale, and we can now know almost all the artists featured in the national pavilions. The 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale will run from April 20 to November 14, 2024, under the direction of Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa, Artistic Director of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand - MASP. The 2022 edition, The Milk of Dreams, curated by Cecilia Alemani, broke attendance records by attracting more than 800,000 visitors. The new edition aims to celebrate cultural specificities by honoring foreign artists, especially those from immigration and exile. For this motivation, the theme of the 60th Biennale, will take the title Foreigners Everywhere and refers to the title of a series of works by the Claire Fontaine collective. The works consist of neon sculptures of various colors bearing the words Foreigners Everywhere in different languages. The expression was in turn taken from the name of a collective of the same name from Turin that was fighting racism and xenophobia in Italy in the early 2000s. The context in which the work is set therefore is characterized by various crises involving the movement and existence of people within countries, nations, territories and borders. These crises reflect the risks and pitfalls present in language, its possible translations and nationality, highlighting differences related to identity, citizenship, race, gender, sexuality, freedom and wealth. The title Strangers Everywhere therefore takes on at least two meanings: it indicates that wherever you go you will always find strangers, and it emphasizes that, regardless of geographic location, you are always deeply foreign.
