Carrara competition for two artist residencies

The Municipality of Carrara puts out a call for two artist residencies for the realization of as many projects.

The Municipality of Carrara is calling for two artist residency grants to be organized from December 18, 2017 to March 2, 2018 and from March 10 to May 23, 2018. The aim is to “reread local historical memory (with the exception of the Municipal Archive of the Marmifera Railway, which will be the subject of specific planning), through the dialogue between local historical archives and contemporary art.” The first four weeks will focus on study and research, while the following six will alternate between exhibition activities, meetings and workshops. The city is providing the Plastic Arts Center, the city’s contemporary art museum, and a total gross sum of 20,000 euros for the implementation of the two projects.

“The proposed activities,” the presentation reads, “should be aimed at the recovery of memory through the enhancement of historical archives, the connection with contemporary art, the organization of temporary exhibitions, meetings, conferences, workshops, within the CAP.” There will be an evaluation conducted by a scientific committee, which will produce a list of projects that will be scored. Proposals must be received by the City of Carrara by noon on Nov. 24, either by mail or by PEC at comune.carrara@postecert.it. More information can be found at www.comune.carrara.ms.gov.it. The projects are reserved for all those active in the field of art history: professors, curators, cultural associations, artists who must propose a residency project for one or more artists (visual art only) focused on the study and reinterpretation of one of the city’s historical archives.
