The City of Livorno has issued a Public Notice to identify a single scientific director for the Civic Museums. Applications due by February 14, 2026.

The City of Livorno has published a Public Notice for the collection of expressions of interest aimed at identifying the Scientific Director/Scientific Director of the Civic Museums.

The selection, by public notice, is aimed at professionals with solid training and proven experience in the field of cultural heritage, museums and heritage enhancement. The position will have a maximum duration of three years and provides for a gross and all-inclusive annual compensation of 40,000 euros. The Scientific Director or the Scientific Director will play a role in guiding and coordinating the cultural, scientific and heritage enhancement activities of the Civic Museums, contributing to the definition of research lines, the planning of exhibitions and displays, the development of educational and outreach activities, and the strengthening of relations with universities, research organizations and museum networks. The functions also include drafting the annual Cultural and Scientific Activities Plan, proposing priorities and objectives, consistent with the museums’ institutional mission and the guidelines of the municipal administration.

Those who possess a master’s degree or equivalent in art-historical, archaeological or cultural heritage conservation disciplines, as well as documented experience in scientific direction or coordination of museum facilities and projects, curation of exhibitions and publications, and use of technologies applied to cultural contexts are eligible to apply. A good knowledge of English is also required.

Expressions of interest should be sent exclusively by PEC to comune.livorno@postacert.toscana.it, indicating in the subject line “Application for appointment Scientific Director/Scientific Director of the Civic Museums of Livorno.” The application must be completed according to specific form attached to the Notice and must be accompanied by a copy of an identity document and curriculum vitae. The application deadline is midnight on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026.
