Ocean Space Venice Launches an Open Call for Artistic Research and Environmental Engagement in the Lagoon

Ocean Space Venice is launching the Tentacular Fellowship in collaboration with TBA21–Academy, NICHE, and Ca’ Foscari. The program will select a professional or collective to participate in a collaborative project focused on artistic and ecological practices in the Venice Lagoon. Deadline: July 5.

Ocean Space Venice is launching the first edition of the Tentacular Fellowship, a new open call dedicated to artistic research and ecological engagement in the Venice Lagoon. The program is sponsored by TBA21–Academy in collaboration with the NICHE Center for Environmental Humanities and the UNESCO Chair on Water, Heritage, and Sustainable Development at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. The initiative is part of a long-term research platform aimed at developing forms of action capable of producing concrete effects on the local area, beyond mere awareness-raising.

The fellowship is a two-year position, from September 2026 to November 2027, based at Ocean Space and Ca’ Foscari. The project is open to a professional or a collective tasked with launching, consolidating, or expanding an initiative based in the Venice Lagoon through the creation of a Tentacular Unit—a collaborative platform that brings together artists, researchers, institutions, local communities, and other stakeholders involved in a specific socio-environmental challenge.

Through field research, network-building, and public initiatives, the selected candidate will contribute to defining the social, institutional, and ecological conditions necessary to establish and develop the initiative within the lagoon context. The deadline for submitting applications is July 5. The application form and the full text of the open call are available online.
