A new museum hub and a new director in Verona: she is Francesca Rossi

Art historian Francesca Rossi has been appointed director of Verona’s museum hub, a new entity that will bring together all of the city’s museums (the Castelvecchio Civic Museum, the Archaeological Museum, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Museum of Natural History, and the city’s monuments) in a single entity strongly desired by the junta led by Federico Sboarina.

Francesca Rossi, from Verona, had already worked for some time (that is, for sixteen years) at the Castelvecchio Museum, but had then left it to offer her expertise to other entities. With a degree in Literature from Padua and a specialization in art history in Milan, after her long stay at Castelvecchio she moved to the Castello Sforzesco in Milan where, since 2010, she has held the position of head of the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints, a role she will now leave to return to her hometown. Among her experiences, Francesca Rossi boasts the curatorship of several exhibitions (such as the one on Boccioni at Palazzo Reale in 2016) and the direction of some important restorations such as that of Andrea Mantegna ’s celebrated Pala di San Zeno and that of the statue of Cangrande della Scala. She has also been a longtime sportswoman, with competitive participations in the discipline of kayaking.
