De' Medici Museum rearranged. Fifteen previously unpublished Medici portraits on display.

Rearranged the Museo de' Medici, the first and only museum entirely dedicated to the famous Florentine family. Fifteen previously unpublished Medici portraits by great artists are on display.

The de’ Medici Museum, the first and only museum entirely dedicated to the history of the most famous Florentine family, has been refurbished.

The new collection houses many previously unseen masterpieces, notably fifteen Medici portraits, including Margherita Luisa d’Orleans, Leopoldo de’ Medici and Vittoria della Rovere di Sustermans, Bronzino’s Cosimo I, Van Douven’s Electress Palatina, Baciccio’s Margherita Luisa d’Orleans, and Concino Concini di Pourbus il Giovane. Also on display are drawings, paintings and engravings by Pier Dandini, Scacciati, Preissler, Della Bella, Ligozzi, Santini and Boscoli, a marble bust and a small bronze by Foggini, one by Piamontini, and more manuscripts, medals, autograph letters, and objects in use at the court of the grand dukes, such as the wooden and gold-leaf wedding favor of Grand Prince Ferdinand and Beatrice Violante of Bavaria.

The new layout intends to bring the museum to life as a Medici-themed container, capable of hosting cultural initiatives of different kinds. In fact, concerts in collaboration with the Cherubini Conservatory of Florence, seminars and editorial presentations will resume soon.

The cultural proposal of the museum venue is also increased by the establishment of an artistic residency granted to the cultural association DeLira, a young reality of the Florentine art scene that will organize performances and workshops for visitors.

The museum can be visited Friday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (closed Tuesday).
