Florence, extensive monitoring of Palazzo Vecchio's Salone dei Cinquecento to begin soon

An extensive monitoring work that will cover the ceiling and architectural elements of the Salone dei Cinquecento in the Palazzo Vecchio will begin in a few months. The worksite will last six months.

In a few months, an extensive monitoring project involving the ceiling and architectural elements of the Salone dei Cinquecento in Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio will get underway for a conservation overhaul. The project is being carried out by the city’s Fine Arts Service, financed thanks to a liberal disbursement from the Pramac company as part of the Florence I care plan to restore and protect the city’s artistic heritage. The agreement was presented by Mayor Dario Nardella and Group CEO Paolo Campinoti.

The work will be carried out while the museum is open and will be aimed at verifying the state of conservation of the wooden panels painted by Giorgio Vasari, the stone or stucco architectural elements and the stone or stucco surfaces that characterize the decorative architectural apparatus of the Salone dei Cinquecento and adjoining monumental rooms, and to carry out the removal of the inconsistent deposits present. The intervention will also include the securing of detached fragments held or not held by metal restraints or close to the detachment of stringcourses and/or ornate surfaces of stone or stucco architectural elements and, in the case that the operation does not present executive difficulties related to the state of conservation of the artifact, the reattachment of the fragment will be carried out. The intervention will be preceded by a cognitivescientific survey from which a timely mapping of the state of conservation will be carried out. The construction site will last six months.

“We continue on the path of increasing collaboration between the public and private sectors,” said Mayor Nardella, “to take the best care of our artistic, historical and cultural heritage.”
