Treviso Civic Museums gives voice to Arturo Martini in an intimate tale

A series of videos from the Treviso Civic Museums tells the story of 20th-century artist Arturo Martini in a new way.

Treviso’s Civic Museums tell the story of Arturo Martini in a new way: a series of six videos designed by Paola Bonifacio will literally give voice to the celebrated 20th-century Treviso artist through the most important works preserved in the Luigi Bailo Museum.

The new initiative, titled L’affiorare dei ricordi - Arturo Martini si racconta al Museo Luigi Bailo, will trace Martini’s life and art from his early works to exhibitions in Venice, from his stay in Munich to his successes in Rome and his maturity in Milan.

Actor Francesco Cevaro will play the Martini of the Colloquies on Sculpture with Gino Scarpa (1944-45): the texts are taken from the meetings-confessions with his journalist friend between July 19 and November 10, 1944, in a journey through his being an artist. It will start on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. with the theme On the Family. Each Wednesday, other appointments will then follow, where topics such as Youth, Between Venice and Munich, Research and Discovery, Maturity, The Work of Art Comes of Itself will be addressed.

The artist loved to express himself through soliloquy, and often even in the third person, always following the thread of thoughts in the intermittent suspension and resumption of utterances and memories. This identifies the character of the man and the expectations of the sculptor, with his dissatisfactions, mood swings, fragility and self-referential exaltation, but also passion and the constant need for truth.

The six videos will be shared on the Treviso Civic Museums’ Facebook page every Wednesday and will be accessible on the Civic Museums’ website at the end of the program.

"The Surfacing of Memories. Arturo Martini tells his story at the Luigi Bailo Museum is the title of the innovative review we have designed for our audience," comments Cultural Heritage and Tourism Councillor Lavinia Colonna Preti. “A series of videos dedicated to the enhancement of our heritage accompanied by an exceptional guide, Arturo Martini in ’person.’ The video pills allow visitors to approach museums in a different, more intimate, candid and surprising way, directly from their smartphones: art is for everyone and contemporary and, above all, it allows us to expand our boundaries. In addition, the content will be able to stimulate the curiosity of those who already know the civic collections, discovering never-before-seen aspects of Martini and our heritage.”
