A tank being knocked out of combat by a mountain of books: this is the installation conceived by Lorenzo and Simona Perrone, creators of LibriBianchi, promoted and produced by the City of Milan and LibriBianchi in collaboration with Eidos Partners, and realized by the creative agency and production house YAM112003, which can be seen from April 23 to 25 in the courtyard of the Royal Palace in Milan.

Titled Only Culture Can Stop War, the installation consists of the display of a tank, a symbol and instrument of war and destruction, put ’out of action’ by a mountain of whitewashed salvaged books, a symbol of culture and peace. During these three days, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., all citizens are invited to bring a book, which, after being whitewashed together with the two artists, will be placed on the tank. At the end of the event, the tank will be entirely submerged by the volumes, signifying the victory of culture over war. For this reason, the City of Milan wanted to support and host the installation in Piazzetta Reale, where it can be admired by as many people as possible.

The intent is to bring awareness to the fact that onlyeducation for non-violence, i.e., deployed against aggression and prevarication of all kinds, will be able to help today’s youth to change man’s attitude toward his fellow man, to discover together new ways of confrontation without the use of weapons.
