Alessandra Quarto has been named the new director of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum. She succeeds Annalisa Zanni who directed the museum for twenty-three years. She will take office on January 2, 2023.

Alessandra Quarto has been appointed as the new director of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum.

Following the selection procedure announced in the call for applications last March 31, 2022, and in compliance with Articles 7 and 8 of the Statute and Article 3.1 of the Regulations of the Poldi Pezzoli Artistic Foundation, the Management Committee has appointed architect Alessandra Quarto as the museum’s new director. She will take office starting next January 2, 2023, for a period of five years.

Architect Alessandra Quarto currently directs the Soprintendenza Archeologia, belle arti e paesaggio for the metropolitan city of Bologna and the provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Ferrara, after having held the same position for the provinces of Biella, Novara, Verbano Cusio Ossola and Vercelli. From 2016 to 2021, she was deputy director of the Pinacoteca di Brera for which she designed and coordinated the entire museum refurbishment and where she was also responsible for fundraising activities for the Pinacoteca di Brera and the Braidense National Library. Architect Quarto will initially be joined by Dr. Annalisa Zanni, who has directed the Poldi Pezzoli Museum for twenty-three years and will continue the institutional and international relationships built and matured over all these years along with the consolidated relationships with donors, in line with the museum’s strategy and values.

“I am very pleased that the Management Committee has identified architect Alessandra Quarto as the next Director of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum,” said Giangiacomo Attolico Trivulzio, president of the Poldi Pezzoli Artistic Foundation. “I am sure that her experience and vision will help communicate the passion that the Museum and its collection have always collected.”

“It is an honor to have been selected to lead the next phase of growth for the Poldi Pezzoli Museum,” commented Alessandra Quarto. “There are few institutions that garner so much passion and a sense of belonging both among the people of Milan and at the national international level. My commitment will be to consolidate and expand these passions. I am excited to begin my collaboration with the entire Museum team and to be joined in the handover and knowledge by Annalisa Zanni.” .
