Alessandro Barbero retires. Ending the historian's university career.

Historian Alessandro Barbero, a university lecturer best known for his work as a popularizer, is leaving teaching: he has in fact retired. He thus ends his university career at theUniversity of Eastern Piedmont in Vercelli after more than two decades of teaching. This is not, of course, a retirement from all activities: his popularization work will continue in the television programs for which he is known (at the moment he is busy with In viaggio con Barbero on La7), as well as in the many lectures that Barbero gives live, and of course with books (the historian also boasts of winning, in 1996, the Strega Prize with the novel Bella vita e guerre altrui di Mr. Pyle, gentiluomo).

At the University of Piedmont, Barbero, born in 1959, taught Medieval History. And at the end of his last lecture he was greeted by an emotional applause from his students, recorded in a video that was circulated on social media. Barbero had first obtained associate professorship in 1998 and then became full professor in 2002, also at the University of Eastern Piedmont. Then, in 2005, his television debut as Piero Angela’s guest on the program Superquark. A commitment, that on the small screen, which will obviously continue: Barbero is now one of the leading exponents of popularization in Italy.
