Dario Argento publishes his new novel set in the Uffizi.

A novel by Dario Argento set in the Uffizi Gallery has been released. The title is 'Night at the Uffizi' and is published by Mondadori.

Director Dario Argento switches from film to literature with the series of short stories "Horror. Stories of Blood, Spirits and Secrets," the first volume of which, “Night at the Uffizi,” is, indeed, set in the Uffizi, which already served as the set for his film “The Stendhal Syndrome.” Also in the Uffizi, Argento presented the book together with director Eike Schmidt, after visiting its galleries and in particular the recently opened Caravaggio room that preserves "The Medusa," mentioned by the director in his story.
Argento recounts, “I fantasized about an experience that happened to me: when we were shooting it was night, with low intensity lights because of the artwork. Since we had little time, while they were putting the lights on with a big flashlight I would go into the rooms, turn around and illuminate the paintings. It is an experience that is hard to explain, these Michelangelos who were looking at you. When I got home I thought it was a hallucinatory experience that I had gone through. When I thought about writing these stories, of course I fantasized about it.”

The director elaborates on the film set in the Uffizi galleries, “’Stendhal syndrome’ seizes almost everyone who goes to museums and sees important works. Everyone is disturbed by masterpieces. For me, art is not only an exaltation of the spirit, it is also a dangerous thing, it is a powerful weapon.”
Schmidt also has his say on the famous film, stating that he has witnessed instances where “visitors faint after admiring our extraordinary concentration of beauty while more frequently others at the end of the visit, happy to have seen so many masterpieces of art, start crying from emotion.”
The book, published by Mondadori, is already on sale for €17 and includes 168 pages.
