Florence: the Tower of San Niccolò can be visited again

Back open to the public, as it is every summer, the Florentine Torre di San Niccolò. June 24 through September 30, 2019.

The Florentine Tower of San Niccolòreopens to the public : from June 24, 2019, on the occasion of the feast of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of the Tuscan capital, the Tower of San Niccolò will be open again, as it is every summer, to allow visitors to discover the history of Florence and to enjoy a spectacular view from above.

The Tower will be open daily until September 30, 2019, from 5 to 8 p.m. (from September 1 from 4 to 7 p.m., with last access half an hour before closing). A guided tour is planned, which from the foot of the tower allows visitors to reach the top. An ascent that this year, for the first time, will allow visitors to admire from above the great work of restoration and recovery of the Poggi Ramps: built between 1872 and 1876 as part of the plan to widen the old city boundaries, where the defensive walls once stood; walls of which the gate of San Niccolò is now a sign and testimony.

The reopening of the tower will be followed, starting in July, by a rich program of visits to the city’s other towers, gates and fortresses, in a journey to enhance the ancient defensive system. The goal is a unified narrative of Florence’s circle of walls and its development over the centuries.

Visits to the Tower of San Niccolò are possible every day from June 24 to September 30, 2019, every 30 minutes.

The expected cost is 6 euros per person. Reservations required.
