A new phase opens today for Villa Favorita and its park, an authentic masterpiece of 18th-century Naples. In the heart of Herculaneum, work has officially begun on the restoration ofBianchi’s building and the connecting body, the first step in a broader restoration and enhancement program that will also involve, by the end of the year, Fuga’s building, secondary buildings and the park.
The project, promoted by the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the Naples Metropolitan Area and theAgenzia del Demanio, is supported by national and European funds and aims to return an asset of extraordinary historical and artistic value to citizens and visitors. The work on the majestic building designed by Ferdinando Fuga, along with the restoration of the Upper and Lower Park, includes conservative restoration, rehabilitation of pedestrian paths and restoration of internal connections, with the aim of transforming the villa into a multifunctional center, an attractor of energy and culture for the entire Vesuvian area.
Thanks to funds from the PNRR, the Complementary Plan to the PON, and resources allocated by the State Property Agency, 31 million euros have been allocated for the first batch of works, which will cover the restoration of the Fuga building, the Upper and Lower Park with its secondary buildings, and landscape rehabilitation with the restoration of pedestrian paths and connections. These operations, overseen by the Ministry of Culture through the Superintendence of Naples, will begin by December 2025. In parallel, the intervention launched today by the State Property Agency, with an investment of 12.5 million euros, will focus on the recovery of the Bianchi building and the connecting body, intended to house spaces for cultural and educational activities. This phase is scheduled to be completed by April 2028.
The complex, with its monumental architecture and park will once again become a living, open and participatory place for the benefit of the community and future generations.
