Marco Balich brings Olympic ceremonies to Treviso's Salce Museum

The exhibition "A Magical Winter. White Emotions from the Salce Collection" opens Nov. 21 and features a section dedicated to Marco Balich, creator of the Sochi 2014 and Beijing 2022 Olympic ceremonies, in collaboration with more than 250 technicians.

The Olympic exhibition at the Salce Collection National Museum (Treviso) is enriched with a major element thanks to the participation of Marco Balich, known for his creations of Olympic and Paralympic performances. Museum director Elisabetta Pasqualin, curator of the exhibition entitled A Magical Winter. White Emotions from the Salce Collection, announced that the exhibition, scheduled to run from Nov. 21 to March 29, 2026, will be staged in the museum’s two venues, Santa Margherita and San Gaetano, with a section entirely dedicated to Balich’s works.

“The figure Marco Balich focuses on,” emphasizes curator Elisabetta Pasqualin, “is that of emotion, a language that manages to speak to all those who follow the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics, an audience that exceeds 2 billion people.”

The section, described by the director as “spectacular,” will offer the public an overview of the Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies designed and directed by the Venetian creative master. Among the moments on display will be large images from the ceremonies of the Sochi 2014 and Beijing 2022 Winter Games. Balich, together with his team of more than 250 technicians, has signed a total of 16 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies, as well as major international events such as the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the two-year sold-out multimedia show Viva Vivaldi, and theTree of Life for Expo Milano 2015. Details related to the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, which will remain secret until the inaugural event, will not be anticipated in the exhibition.

The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Culture - Regional Directorate National Museums Veneto - National Museum Salce Collection, as part of the Cultural Olympiad of the Milan Cortina 2026 Federation. The collaboration extends to the Museum of Emigration and the Sportsystem Museum, with contributions from the Veneto Region, the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso and Belluno, and with the patronage of the Province of Treviso, the Municipality of Treviso, Confindustria Veneto Est, the Sportsystem Foundation, RAI Veneto, Gruppo SAVE Spa and the Treviso Section of the Coni. Technical sponsor of the event is Hausbrandt Trieste 1982.
