Mario Turetta is the new secretary general of the Ministry of Culture

A native of Alpignano, Turin, born in 1958, Turetta graduated in sociology from theUniversity of Urbino and from there began a long career as a civil servant. He began working in 1983 at CNA (Confederazione Nazionale dell’Artigianato), where he was head of the Chieri office, and then moved in 1987 to the Rosselli Foundation as an executive, a position he held until 1994, when he began his experience as a state executive, first at the Department of Civil Service and Regional Affairs of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, then from 1996 to 1999 at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security where he was director of the Piedmont Regional Employment Agency.

In 1999 he moved to the Ministry of the Treasury of which he was head of communications for two years, and in 2002 afterwards he became manager of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. Among the positions he held for the Roman College were the position of chief secretary to the minister (from 2002 to 2004), the position of regional director for Cultural and Landscape Heritage of Piedmont (from 2004 to 2007 and then again from 2010 to 2015: among other things, he coordinated and established the Egyptian Museum Foundation, the first occasion in which a major Italian museum became a foundation), and the role of director general for general affairs, budget, human resources and training (2007-2008). Again, for two years (from 2008 to 2010) he was regional director for Cultural and Landscape Heritage of Lombardy (he was in charge of the establishment of the Consortium of Villa Reale in Monza and coordinated the works of the Palazzo Litta complex), from 2015 to 2019 he was director of the Consortium of Royal Residences while from 2019 to 2022 he served as Director General for Cinema and Audiovisual and then became Director General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes.
