MiBACT allocates 20 million euros for exhibitions canceled due to Covid

From the Ministry of Culture comes 20 million euros earmarked for organizers of exhibitions canceled, cancelled or postponed due to coronavirus.

In one of the first decrees implementing the measures established in the Relaunch Decree, Cultural Heritage Minister Dario Franceschini has earmarked 20 million euros for exhibitions canceled, cancelled or postponed due to the health emergency. The resources will be used to help organizers limit losses and are part of the “Business and Cultural Institutions Emergency Fund” established by the Relaunch Decree.

The 20 million fund is intended for cultural sector operators who have suffered a drop in turnover due to the cancellation, cancellation or postponement due to the Covid-19 epidemiological emergency of at least one darte exhibition in Italy or abroad scheduled between Feb. 23, 2020 and Sept. 30, 2020. In order to be allocated a portion of the resources, an application must be submitted: entities whose main activity is the organization of darte exhibitions and entities providing logistics and transportation and set-up services that have a share of more than 50 percent of their turnover derived from activities concerning darte exhibitions can do so. To apply for funding, entities must have the following requirements: registered office in Italy; be in good standing with social security, tax, and insurance obligations; absence of bankruptcy proceedings; and absence of conditions preventing them from contracting with public administrations.

Losses are calculated by comparing revenues for the period from Feb. 23, 2020, to July 31, 2020, with those for the same period in 2019. The decree has been sent to the supervisory bodies and will be available on the MiBACT website www.beniculturali.it upon successful registration. Within five days from the date of registration, the General Directorate of Museums will publish a notice with the procedures and deadlines for submitting applications for grants.

“To the 150 million euros already authorized to support state museums and private museums,” Franceschini said, “an additional 20 million euros are now being added to compensate exhibition organizers for their losses. With this decree, the commitment to support the sectors of the art world that are still going through a difficult time even in this phase of restart continues.”
