“They have been four years of intense work,” Franceschini explains in the introduction, “of which I am proud and happy because thanks to the commitment of the government and the majority and the constructive contribution of the oppositions, policies for culture and tourism, both in terms of resources and from the point of view of choices and rules, have gained a new centrality in this legislature. Many of the actions executed are now irreversible, regardless of who is in government in the coming years.”

Among the actions claimed by the current minister: the increase in the ministry’s budget to over 2.4 billion euros (from 1.5 in 2013), the competition for 500 officials (later extended to 1,000 with the 2018 budget law), the single superintendencies, the reform of cultural heritage exports, the birth of the national museum system and the creation of the 32 autonomous museums, increases in visitors and receipts, the introduction of free Sundays at the museum, the liberalization of photos at museums, archives and libraries, and the defense of the landscape. Plus: the recovery of the heritage injured by the 2016 earthquake and the national earthquake plan, the establishment of the Directorate General for Contemporary Art and Urban Peripheries, the introduction of the art bonus, the introduction of 18app (the €500 for 18-year-olds to spend on culture) and Cinema2Day (the €2 cinema Wednesdays), increased funding for cinema, and the establishment of blue helmets for culture.
