On December 19, a hitherto unknown self-portrait by Artemisia Gentileschi was sold at auction at Drouot in Paris for the extraordinary sum of 2,360,600 euros.

The painting, estimated at 300-400,000 euros, depicts the artist’sSelf-Portrait as Saint Catherine and dates from 1614-1616.
The woman is depicted with a palm and cogwheel, symbols of martyrdom.

The name of the new owner has not been released.
