The new president of ICOM Italy has been elected: she is Antonella Pinna

Elected the new President of ICOM Italy for the three-year period 2026-2028: she is Antonella Pinna.

The elected offices of ICOM Italia were renewed in Rome during the Ordinary Members’ Meeting, which took place on January 23 and 24, 2026. The appointment, central to the life of the association, marked the start of the new three-year period 2026-2028 and was well attended, confirming the strong involvement of the professional community of Italian museums. Opening the proceedings was outgoing President Michele Lanzinger, who greeted members and presented a review of the activities of the three-year period just ended. The image of a dynamic and active association emerged, committed to research and professional updating and a protagonist in the national and international debate on issues of contemporary museology and cultural and social policies.

A particularly important moment was devoted to the return of the work of the Working Groups, which fostered a broad and constructive discussion among the members. The interventions highlighted the intensity and quality of the activities carried out, addressing issues such as training, research, ethics, accessibility and innovation in museums. The participation and debate that followed confirmed the central role of the Working Groups as spaces of shared elaboration and engines of association life.

Voting returned an articulate and representative picture, in terms of plurality of expertise, disciplinary fields, types of institutions and territorial spread. The new Board of Directors reflects the complexity and richness of the national museum system, including professionalism from state, civic and autonomous museums, foundations, cultural institutions and realities distributed throughout the country. A composition that strengthens the association’s ability to interpret diverse needs and perspectives, in constant dialogue with the international context.

The newly elected President of ICOM Italy is Antonella Pinna. Elected to the Board of Directors are Martina De Luca (Vice-President), Tiziana D’Angelo, Roberto Ferrari, Valentina Galloni, Michele Lanzinger, Adele Maresca Compagna (President’s Committee), Anna Maria Marras and Babet Trevisan.

The new office structure opens a phase of work geared toward consolidating the association’s activities, strengthening member participation, and carefully overseeing the transformations taking place in the museum and cultural sector.

For the three-year period 2026-2028, the program is structured around a few key points: addressing the challenges of digital transition, artificial intelligence, sustainability and full accessibility; the enhancement of professionalism through the strengthening of partnerships with universities and institutions and dialogue with the Ministry of Culture and the Regions for the implementation of the National Museum System; the strengthening of the association structure, with particular attention to Regional Coordinations and Working Groups; international outreach and support for young professionals; and finally, the promotion of collaboration from a MAB (Museums, Archives, Libraries) perspective, in the belief that an integrated network strengthens the entire national cultural system.

“It is with deep emotion and a great sense of responsibility that I accept today the position of President of ICOM Italy. After serving as National Councilor since 2019, I feel that this new position is the most authentic way to give back what I have received from this extraordinary community. My thanks go to all of you for your trust, but also to those who have preceded me: I have closely followed the work of the last presidencies and learned a lot by participating in international debates and collaborating with professionals of enormous expertise,” said the new president on the occasion of her election. “I accept this mandate with the will to put my wealth of experience at the service of ICOM Italy and aware that no office is effective if it is not supported by active participation. The presidency is not a man or a woman alone at the helm, but the top of a consolidated ”machine.“ Therefore, I hope for and seek maximum cooperation with the Council, the Arbitrators, the Auditors and the Secretariat, the Regional Coordinations and the Working Groups. The program ahead of us for the next three years is ambitious and builds on a solid foundation built over the past years.”
