The School of Digital Imaging and AI is born in Florence: training for the imaging professionals of the future

Immaginari Contemporanei - School of Digital Imaging & AI Production, the new project promoted by Fondazione Studio Marangoni with the aim of training contemporary image professionals, is born in Florence.

Generative artificial intelligence is radically transforming the processes of image conception, production and dissemination. In this scenario, with the support of Fondazione CR Firenze, Immaginari Contemporanei - School of Digital Imaging & AI Production, the new project promoted by Fondazione Studio Marangoni with the aim of training contemporary image professionals able to use photography, video, digital content and generative technologies in a conscious, innovative and critical way, was born. The training integrates visual culture, digital design, photography, video, sound, ethics, copyright, and generative artificial intelligence tools, targeting in particular young creatives, freelancers, professionals in the cultural sector, and NEETs, young people who are not studying, not working, and not in training

The school, which will take place between October 2026 and June 2027, is intended for students, professionals, workers in the creative and cultural sector, and anyone wishing to update or redefine their career path. Special attention will be paid to residents of the provinces of Florence, Arezzo and Grosseto, with the intention of developing applicable skills in the fields of visual communication, cultural production, digital publishing, creative direction and new audiovisual languages. The program includes about 400 hours of training between lectures, training activities and conferences, plus 200 hours of individual study and work. The activities will alternate between in-person appointments in Florence and online moments. The topics covered will range from image culture to ethics and copyright law, from generative AI applied to creativity to integrated professional workflows, to photographic, video and sound techniques, symptography and digital content design.

Contemporary Imaginaries also aims to be a space for hands-on experimentation, designed to bring students closer to real design and production contexts. Collaborations with cultural institutions, professionals and local realities are planned for the creation of campaigns, projects and visual narratives capable of combining technological innovation, research and cultural responsibility. In parallel, the school aims to be a place for discussion and in-depth study of the languages of contemporary visual culture, through conferences, workshops, public meetings and shared activities with artists and experts in the field. Special emphasis will also be given to high school students, involved in outreach initiatives aimed at raising awareness of new professional opportunities related to visual arts, digital creativity and artificial intelligence.

The inaugural event will be held on June 20 at Fondazione Studio Marangoni and will be an opportunity to present the project together with some of the teachers and experts involved. This will be followed by the open workshop L’immagine espansa, conceived as a first practical experience dedicated to the technologies and languages of the new image professions. The workshop will be reserved for a maximum of twenty participants. The presentation will take place from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., while the workshop will continue until 1 p.m. Info and registration: https://studiomarangoni.it/eventi/limmagine-espansa/

The project is part of the path of research and training that Fondazione Studio Marangoni has been pursuing for over thirty-five years in the field of photography and contemporary visual culture. The strong territorial roots will be accompanied by a marked international openness, thanks to the involvement of teachers, professionals and visiting artists active in the field of visual research and new digital practices. The course will also see the collaboration of institutions and cultural partners such as Museo Galileo, MAD Murate Art District and Bright Festival.

With Immaginari Contemporanei, Florence aspires to consolidate its role as an advanced center for the training of image professionals in the age of artificial intelligence: a space in which to learn technical and linguistic skills, but also to reflect on the social value of images, their potential in the production of knowledge and the cultural responsibility of those who make them. Activities will start in October 2026 and end in June 2027. Applications must be submitted by July 31.
