This fall will see the arrival of The Medici Game, the video game set in the halls of the Pitti Palace

Coming out this fall is The Medici Game, a new video game that will be set in the Pitti Palace. It will star a young art historian.

For the first time, Pitti Palace becomes the setting for a video game: indevelopment, but will be ready in the fall The Medici Game: Murder at Pitti Palace.

Making the video game is the cultural association TuoMuseo, a specialist in the art of gamification of cultural realities: its the award-winning Father to Son, made for the National Archaeological Museum of Naples; instead, the publishing house Sillabe in partnership with Opera Laboratori Fiorentini - Civita and Gallerie degli Uffizi is conceiving and producing it. It will be aninvestigative adventure, set in the most rooms of the Pitti Palace: in the Sala Bianca, the Sala di Saturno (where many of Raphael’s masterpieces, including his self-portrait, are on display) and the Sala di Prometeo (which houses the oldest paintings in the palace’s collection), as well as in one of the most evocative places in the Boboli Gardens, the Grotta del Buontalenti. The protagonist will be Caterina, a young art historian: during a visit inside the Pitti Palace, the girl finds herself involved in a mysterious murder; in order to get out alive, Caterina will be forced to improvise herself as a detective and solve, also thanks to her art-historical skills, a long series of enigmas that will lead her to discover the centuries-old secrets jealously guarded in the ancient palace.

An Instagram profile of the video game’s protagonist caterina_florence92 has also been created to give her greater expressive power and make her seem like a real person.

The video game designed for mobile devices (cell phones and tablets), will be available from autumn on major digital stores in Ios and Android versions in Italian, English, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese.

The director of the Uffizi Galleries, Eike Schmidt, commented, “Palazzo Pitti in Florence, one of the most beautiful and spectacular palaces in the world, is also about to become the setting for a video game focused on the great themes of history and art. It is an imaginative initiative to interest younger audiences and bring them closer to our museums, offering innovative cues to become passionate about our cultural heritage. The encounter with art and beauty thus takes place through play, a very powerful educational tool.”
