Tourism Minister Daniela Santanché has resigned

Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè has resigned. The full letter of resignation to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who already yesterday asked the minister to follow the example of Delmastro and Bartolozzi.

Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè has resigned. As early as yesterday, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had asked the minister to take a step back and follow the example of Undersecretary Delmastro and Chief of Staff Bartolozzi, who left their posts at the Ministry of Justice yesterday. At first Santanchè had rejected the request, maintaining her position, while the oppositions had meanwhile filed a motion of no-confidence. After hours, came the decision to resign, thus leaving the post at the Ministry of Tourism.

Below is the full letter of resignation.

Dear Giorgia I resign, as you officially wished, my resignation from the role of minister that you had wanted to entrust me with and that I believe I have carried out to the best of my ability and without any contraindications. I thank you for the accolades and for the trust you have shown me during these years of leadership of the Ministry of Tourism. I wanted (and I hope you will understand me) to be publicly clear that it was you who asked me to leave this role because, as I have always said, I would resign only in the face of your explicit and public request. I wanted it to be clear, for my own honorability, that I am stepping down, not due only in the face of the request that the head of my Party considers useful and appropriate. I was and am anxious to emphasize that to date my criminal record is spotless and that for the layoff affair there is not even a simple indictment.

Yesterday perhaps abruptly (you will understand my state of mind) I represented to you my unwillingness to my immediate resignation because I wanted it to be separate both from the comments on the referendum because I would not want to be the scapegoat for a defeat that was certainly not determined by me, given also the result in Lombardy and even in my town hall.

I also wanted my resignation to be separated from the contingent and very different affair involving Hon. Del Mastro, who is also paying a high price. Having clarified this I have no difficulty in saying “I obey” and doing what you ask. I do not hide from you some bitterness about the outcome of my ministerial path but in my life I am accustomed to paying my own bills and often those of others. I care more about our friendship and the future of our movement.

Kind regards.

Daniela
