Turin, the region saves the Gam Library and its employees

In Turin, the Gam Library is safe for now: the Piedmont Region announces an allocation of funds to ensure its opening.

Saved for now in Turin is the Gam Art Library, which was in danger of closure because of cuts to culture inflicted by the city administration. The risk was that the Library’s huge holdings, officially the “Library of the Fondazione Torino Musei” but known to all as the “Library of Gam” because it was long united with the Turin Gallery of Modern Art, would be transferred to the National University Library. However, the Piedmont Region intervened with an allocation of 350,000 euros, announced by the regional councillor for culture, Antonella Parigi.

Still uncertain, however, is the future of other culture workers at risk of redundancy. A meeting between the parties is scheduled for today, and workers at Turin’s civic museums could declare a state of agitation.
