Venice, the restoration of the Basilica della Salute gets underway: starting with the facades

Start of the restoration of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice: the three main facades will be restored by December.

The first phase of the restoration of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice is underway: during these six months, cleaning, restoration of the stone elements and plaster restoration will be carried out. By December, therefore, the three main facades of the Basilica will be restored with an investment of 980 thousand euros.

The restoration works were presented, during an inspection by the rector Fr. Fabrizio Favaro, who said, “The first construction site will end in December because we are taking advantage of the facade bonus, with which we are able to recover 90% of what we will spend, deducting it from taxes for the next ten years. The remainder of the costs will be financed mainly thanks to an advertising panel that will be rented for the next sixteen months and ”for which we have obtained permission from the Superintendence and City Administration. The intervention is strategic and necessary,“ Favaro added, ”and the help of patrons will also help us get out of the decay and carry out a maintenance that is going to be extraordinary."

Subsequent worksites will start in 2022, which will include the restoration of the main portal, the restoration of the floor of the main rotunda and of the entire Basilica, with a total cost of about 935 thousand euros.
