Work on securing the Basilica of Norcia will be completed

The Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Umbria has announced that work to secure the Basilica of Norcia will be completed.

Umbria’s Superintendent of Cultural Heritage Marica Mercalli announced that work on securing the Basilica of St. Benedict in Norcia will be completed.

"After having made the façade safe following the October 30, 2016 quake and having finished the interventions in the apse and on what is left of the bell tower, now we have to intervene inside the Basilica, freeing it from the rubble and then complete its securing starting with the counter-façade," she said.

He added, “The hope is that in these summer months we can complete the work, but giving firm dates at the moment is difficult. Certainly the working group we are setting up will make the maximum effort to free the Basilica from the rubble as soon as possible, so then start planning its reconstruction.”
