A significant archaeological discovery was made in Qesarat,in the Tepelenë area, in Albania, where an Italian-Albanian archaeological expedition has unearthed an architectural complex featuring six floors decorated with polychrome mosaics, human figures, and geometric patterns, as well as fragments of wall paintings. The news of the discovery was reported on the official page of Vjosa - Park Kombëtar, Europe’s first wild river national park, which shared the information provided by the archaeologists leading the research: Professors Eduart Shehi and Sabina Veseli, of the Institute of Archaeology and the Academy of Albanological Studies in Tirana, and Professor Silvio Fiorilello, of the University of Bari “Aldo Moro.”
The discovery was made during the 2026 field campaign as part of the project “Arkeologjia e peizazhit në zonën Tepelenë-Memaliaj” (Archaeology and Landscape in the Tepelena-Memaliaj Area), promoted by the Academy of Albanological Studies in collaboration with the “Aldo Moro” University of Bari and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
