A new museum is born in Varese: the Marcello Morandini Foundation

An Art Nouveau villa in Varese was the site of the inauguration of the Marcello Morandini Foundation dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the artist's works born out of his research into the world of geometry.

The headquarters of the Marcello Morandini Foundation has been inaugurated in Varese: an Art Nouveau villa restored to house the works of the international artist and designer, born from his long and passionate research into the world of geometry. The Foundation will thus be dedicated to the promotion, enhancement and preservation of Marcello Morandini’s works and projects.

Established in 2016 with the aim of creating a museum dedicated to the artist’s works, the Foundation also aims to promote awareness ofConcrete and Constructivist Art, an international cultural movement that ranges from visual arts, literature, architecture and music, of which the Foundation intends to become the point of reference in Italy and internationally, through the creation of exhibitions, conferences and publications.

The venue is an early 20th-century villa that has been restored and, in three years of work, transformed into a museum space where the master’s world of forms is combined with the historical memory of the home. Over 930 square meters divided into four floors, a large park of 3,300 square meters with ancient trees and exotic plants.

The second floor will be devoted to temporary international exhibitions, focusing mainly on Concrete and Constructivist Art; the second will host events and initiatives; the third will be entirely dedicated to his permanent collection, and on the occasion of the inauguration, an anthological exhibition will be set up here, tracing the main moments of the artist’s production. The last and fourth floors will house the artist’s studio, offices and the Foundation’s archives.

An installation by the artist has then been placed in the garden: white rings of various sizes made of boxed metal and powder coated, surrounding the logs. Marcello Morandini envisioned his museum as a new space for the city, open to all, accessible and inclusive.

The project was co-financed by the Cariplo Foundation.

The villa will be open to the public from October 2, 2021. Hours: Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guided tours for small groups with reservations required on the website. Cost 8 euros.
