Damien Hirst, Fondazione Prada and Save the Children united for education in Italy

Damien Hirst, with the support of Fondazione Prada, launches a charity campaign for Save the Children.

With the support of the Prada Foundation, Damien Hirst (Bristol, 1965) is launching a charity campaign to support Save the Children ’s “Rewrite the Future” program for education in Italy. The project aims to help Italian children from disadvantaged backgrounds who were affected by school closures during the COVID-19 health emergency. For this occasion, Damien Hirst has created four new limited edition prints.

“COVID-19,” said the renowned artist, "was devastating for many people and families around the world, and the period of enforced isolation proved very difficult, especially for children who were prevented from attending school. I wanted to find a way to raise funds to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds who have been particularly affected by the closure of schools and the support they provide. I am happy to collaborate with Fondazione Prada on the launch of these new works to support the wonderful work that Save the Children is doing in Italy, giving free access to education and opportunity to thousands of children in need."

The works Fruitful and Forever feature vivid abstract details of paintings from Hirst’s new series titled Cherry Blossoms. The canvases depict trees in full bloom, which are inspired by the works of Pierre Bonnard, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and the pointillism of Georges Seurat. The two new prints produced in a limited edition show close up of some of the details of the larger canvases.

You can purchase the prints through the HENI Leviathan online platform from 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 until midnight Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020. The number of prints made will correspond to the amount of requests received. Each work is available in two sizes (39 x 39 cm and 78 x 78 cm), costing 400 euros and 1,200 euros, respectively.

All proceeds will be donated to Save the Children. Fondazione Prada has enthusiastically joined Damien Hirst’s initiative by offering its support to promote Save the Children’s charity project, in the belief that education and culture represent a driving force for the development of new generations, especially at a time of crisis and uncertainty.

"We are all thrilled with the support that Damien Hirst and Fondazione Prada have decided to offer Save the Children and our project “Let’s Rewrite the Future,” commented Daniela Fatarella, CEO of Save the Children Italy. “It is necessary to counter the high risk of an increase in child educational poverty and early school leaving, after the disruption of classes has prevented many students from being able to access distance education in our country. Thanks to these works by Damien Hirst, art, which in our projects is often one of the key elements for the positive growth of children, will also be an important tool that will allow us to continue to support thousands of children and adolescents who have been severely affected by the Coronavirus emergency and the resulting socio-economic crisis.”
