Genoa, virtual guided tours in the churches of the Palazzi dei Rolli

Virtual guided tours will accompany the public to discover the churches of Genoa's Palazzi dei Rolli.

From December 20, 2020 to January 6, 2021, it will be possible, thanks to drones and high-definition technology, to discover the pictorial and architectural wonders and artistic cribs of the Rolli churches.

A rich calendar of virtual tours, visible on the visitgenoa.it website and the Genova More Than This Youtube channel, will bring to life the project Le Chiese dei Palazzi dei Rolli, implemented by the Cultural Policies Department of the City of Genoa, with the sponsorship of the Archdiocese of Genoa, Cultural Heritage Office.
Accompanying the public on the virtual tour will be the scientific curator of Rolli Days Giacomo Montanari, a professor at the University of Genoa and creator of the project, along with a number of science popularizers, young professionals in the field of Humanities.

A preview is scheduled for Dec. 8, with the presentation of a video on the church of theAlbergo dei Poveri: the largest building built in Genoa, which was created as the headquarters of a charity institution and holds treasures of the Genoese Baroque.

Through videos, the magnificence of Genoa will be recounted, from the Renaissance forms of the Basilica dei Sauli in Carignano to the ancient Franciscan Basilica dell’Annunziata (clothed in Baroque splendor by the intervention of the Lomellini family in the early 17th century) to the great paintings of Rubens, in a triumph of marbles that make the Church of Jesus a splendid site.

Ample space will also be devoted to the great tradition of the Genoese nativity scene, evidenced by works of the highest quality: especially in the 18th century, when important carvers such as Anton Maria Maragliano worked on great displays. The figurines tell the story of their time, show noble characters dressed in precious and refined fabrics or faithfully represent the appearance of the people of the people, with special attention to details: the objects, the tools, the jewelry, but also the expressions and looks.

The online program of the Churches of the Palazzi dei Rolli also includes an interpretation by Igor Chierici of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and moments dedicated to traditional Christmas carols interpreted by Maria Pierantoni Giua.
