Mondolfo's open-air museum is enriched with new street art works

Mondolfo Galleria Senza Ceiling, the permanent urban art project in Mondolfo's historic center, is enriched with new street art works.

In Mondolfo, in the province of Pesaro Urbino, the permanent urban art project Mondolfo Galleria Senza Soffitto, which counts the artistic direction of Filippo Sorcinelli and the curatorship of the PAM - Pro Arte Mondolfo Association, in collaboration with the municipal administration, is enriched with new works. Thanks to this project, the historic center of Mondolfo, as of August 2020, has become an open-air museum. It is the only village in the world in which five large-scale printed photographs by the master of photography Mario Giacomelli are installed in the streets of the town, and accompanying the photographs are street art works created in public spaces and buildings, on walls and sidewalks, courtesy of well-known names in the Italian and international street art scene.

Two new works have been added to the outdoor gallery. Jody Pinge created her intervention on a wall of the Aquilone Nursery School: her work entitled Leggerezza (Lightness ) depicts a little girl from whose hair planets are born; she represented the lightness of thoughts that children have, inspired by what Italo Calvino said, “Take life lightly, for lightness is not superficiality, but gliding over things from above, not having boulders on your heart.”

The intervention by Simone Travaglini, aka Travart, is closely related to the history of Mondolfo. He transposed a work by Giancarlo Pucci, professor of geometric drawing and visionary artist, onto the wall. That same wall where a few steps away lives Mezzafaccia, which is also the title of the mural. That’s what they have always called Netta in the borough, because of an illness that affected half of her face and led her to always cover that part of her face-a tribute to her and to all those who live and have lived in those alleys of the historic center.
