Cristiana Capotondi will play Margherita Hack in the new Rai production that will tell the life story of the great Italian astrophysicist. Filming is underway.

Shooting began at the end of March on the film Margherita of the Stars, directed by Giulio Base and written by Monica Zapelli with Federico Taddia, which aims to tell the life of Margherita Hack on TV. Based on the autobiographical book Nove vite come i gatti (Nine lives like cats), written by Margherita Hack together with Taddia himself, the film, which will be broadcast soon on Rai1, will return anintimate and emotional portrait of the great Italian astrophysicist.

Playing Margherita will be Cristiana Capotondi, while Cesare Bocci will be her father Roberto. With them will be Sandra Ceccarelli and Flavio Parenti, who will play Margherita’s mother and Aldo De Rosa, Hack’s husband, respectively.

The film will trace the life of the Florentine researcher, from an autonomous and curious child to a free and nonconformist girl, to becoming the first woman to direct the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste.

Margherita of the Stars is a Rai Fiction-Minerva Pictures production, produced by Santo Versace and Gianluca Curti.

These days filming is underway in Pistoia: the crew shot some scenes in private areas, then the set moved to Pistoia’s central square and some neighboring streets. Piazza del Duomo was transformed into a movie set with a number of scenic elements, including a horse-drawn carriage, vintage cars, bicycles and an ice cream cart, along with many extras, dressed in 1940s clothing. The actors and crew were not without the affection of many Pistoiese and tourists who, interested and intrigued, followed the cameras turned on in the square.
