From October 25, 2025 to January 11, 2026, the Trento Civic Gallery presents the exhibition Esther Stocker. Calm Chaos, curated by Gabriele Lorenzoni, in collaboration with the City of Trento.
The artistic research of Esther Stocker (born 1974 in South Tyrol, lives and works in Vienna) revolves around the themes of vision and perception of space. Her works, which range from painting to sculpture to impressive environmental installations, are distinguished by a rigorous geometric language and the use of an essential palette based on white, black and gray. Between optical art and historical minimalism, Stocker’s artistic language gives rise to environmental works that, despite their apparent rationality, foster a profound and participatory dialogue between the work and the public, transforming observation into an immersive experience.
In collaboration with the MART - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, the City of Trento has entrusted the artist with the project of remaking the pedestrian underpass that connects the city center to the new intermodal hub of the public road system. The intervention, part of the broader transformation of the “former SIT” area, represents the most important urban redevelopment project currently underway in Trento and translates Stocker’s research into a shared urban context, transforming a place of passage.
With this initiative, the Trento Civic Gallery expands its exhibition activities in public space, confirming its vocation for experimentation and dialogue between art and the city.
