From September 26, 2026, to March 7, 2027, the Museo Novecento in Florence will present an exhibition dedicated to Victor Man, a Romanian artist born in Cluj in 1974. Approximately 25 paintings will guide visitors through an exhibition focused on some of the most recurring themes in his work, ranging from motherhood to portraiture, from self-portraits to the female figure and still lifes. The ground-floor galleries of the Ex Leopoldine, in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, will host the artist’s works for over five months as part of an exhibition curated by Sergio Risaliti and sponsored by the City of Florence.
The exhibition brings together works from different periods of the artist’s career, highlighting the continuity of certain subjects and motifs that recur in her pictorial language.
The exhibition itinerary will allow visitors to engage with works such as *Lelkek temetoje, der Friedhof der Seelen* (2019), *Girl with Goya’s Skull* (2021), and *Maternity with Legend* (2024). Alongside these works, more recent paintings will also be presented, including *Maternity* and *Curve delle Anime*, both from 2025, as well as *Reclining Maiden – Prelude of Equinox*, *Transfiguration*, and *Cassa Oscura*, created between 2025 and 2026. Through this selection, the exhibition connects images and subjects that have long been part of Man’s artistic exploration, creating a narrative in which the human presence—and in particular the female presence—takes center stage.
Rounding out the exhibition will be five paintings from the series *Luminary Petals on a Wet Black Bough*. Among these is *Untitled (After Michelangelo)*, created in 2023, which expands the dialogue proposed by the exhibition through an explicit reference to artistic tradition. The inclusion of this series thus helps to paint a more nuanced picture of Victor Man’s body of work, complementing the paintings already identified as the exhibition’s thematic cores with more recent works.
The project is sponsored by the City of Florence and realized with the support of Galerie Max Hetzler and David Zwirner Gallery. The exhibition offers the Florentine public the opportunity to explore Victor Man’s work in greater depth.
