Arte Fiera returns to Bologna from February 3 to 5 and reaches its 46th edition: for the occasion, to welcome visitors to Arte Fiera 2023, there will be a large installation that bears the signature of MCA - Mario Cucinella Architects: an intervention that aims to characterize, from the entrance to the Fair, the new path of the event, with a project that intends to represent the attention to the themes of sustainability, a central element in the Studio’s activity.

For the Bolognese kermesse, Studio MCA has proposed the reuse of part of a previous project: the intervention is a readaptation, both functional and material, of the installation Design with Nature, the project realized by the Studio in 2022 for the 60th edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The installation took the form of two large tables, designed with the use of recycled material, with a sinuous and organic appearance, capable of generating different and multifunctional spaces and encouraging interaction between visitors.

The logic of the intervention aims to emphasize the approach that is not only sustainable but also oriented to functional versatility, which Mario Cucinella, founder of MCA - Mario Cucinella Architects and SOS - School of Sustainability, describes as follows: “art and design have always coexisted in a continuous dialogue and contamination. Shapes and spaces are born from it, shaped further by the historical context and society. It is precisely this principle of commingling that continues to be translated into the characteristic forms of the multifunctional island that will be included in the BolognaFiere Service Center: an inanimate object that, thanks to its welcoming and sinuous shape, encourages encounters, relationships and dialogues, transforming a horizontal surface into a cultural place of exchange and comparison.” MCA therefore translated these concepts by reviving the design and adapting it to meet the functional needs of the new location. The table, which is configured as a sinuous element positioned within an area of 1225 square meters, in its new look will accommodate a bookstore, the VIP desk and an area used for presentations and meetings.

Once the 2023 edition of the event is over, the installation will continue to live on with different forms and functions for other events throughout the year within the Fair space.
