BUILDINGBOX looks back at the most important milestones of its five years of operation

BUILDINGBOX presents Flashbacks, an exhibition project that aims to retrace the most important stages of BUILDING's activities, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of its birth. It begins with John Campus.

From April 9, 2022 to January 9, 2023, BUILDINGBOX presents Flashbacks, an exhibition project curated by Alice Montanini that aims to retrace the most important stages of BUILDING’s activity, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of its birth.

The project aims to pay tribute to all the artists, curators and essayists who have contributed to BUILDING, presenting for the first time in an organic way a selection of works belonging to the gallery’s permanent collection, accompanied by the catalogs and archival materials documenting its exhibition activity over the past five years.

The review will retrace the main moments of BUILDING’s curatorial activity, while at the same time projecting into the future of its programming. An open-door rereading of its collection, through some representative works of the main artists promoted by the gallery and of the exhibition and publishing activity carried out so far, presented in the spaces of BUILDINGBOX at irregular intervals and visible 24/7 from the window of via Monte di Pietà 23 in Milan.

Opening Flashbacks is a selection of works by Giovanni Campus (Olbia, 1929), concrete works from the 1980s exhibited on the occasion of the exhibition Giovanni Campus. Time in Process. Relationships, Measures, Connections, curated by Francesco Tedeschi, presented in 2019 at BUILDING and MA*GA. Works that testify to the constant exploration of matter in its phenomenal becoming and unveiling that has always characterized the artist’s research. Raw physicality is shaped by the formal rigor of geometric configurations, which shape the perceptual moment through logical-rational coordinates.
