On the occasion of Milan Art Week, FAI - Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano ETS presents an unprecedented exhibition dedicated to Adolfo Wildt (Milan 1868 - 1931), staged at Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan from April 15 to June 28, 2026.
The initiative originates from an absence: the temporary relocation of the 1930 work The Pure Madman (Parsifal), donated to FAI in 2006 as part of the Claudia Gian Ferrari Collection and which has become one of the symbols of Villa Necchi. The work is currently on display in the exhibition Barocco. The Grand Theater of Ideas, running at the Museo Civico San Domenico in Forlì until June 28, 2026. This momentary relocation has given rise to a virtuous exchange between the two institutions: thanks to the collaboration with the City of Forlì - Department of Culture - and the Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì, in place of The Pure Madman (Parsifal), the Mask of Pain (Self-Portrait), created by Wildt in 1909 and coming from the new museum section dedicated to the Great Donors of the Forlì museum, has been welcomed to Villa Necchi. The work will remain on display for the duration of the Forli exhibition, reinforcing a dialogue based on mutual sharing and appreciation of artistic heritage.
Starting with this loan, FAI chose to expand the focus on Adolfo Wildt by including three other works granted by private collectors: Atte (The Widow) of 1892 and The Martyrology of 1895, belonging to the early phase of the artist’s production and coming from the Massimo Minini collection, as well as The Soul and Her Robe of 1916, from a private Milanese collection. These are intense and intimate works that allow us to delve into the evolution of Wildt’s sculptural language and his investigation of the inner dimension, in the construction of a spiritual image of the human being.
With this project, FAI takes part in Milan Art Week through an original installation dedicated to Adolfo Wildt: four works that fit into the spaces of Villa Necchi, dialoguing with the permanent collection, architecture and furnishings. The exhibition is an opportunity to admire works from private collections, delve into the figure of one of the great protagonists of twentieth-century sculpture through lesser-known works, and at the same time enhance the network of cultural and collector relationships that fuel FAI’s activities, promoting an increasingly rich dialogue between works, spaces and stories of patronage.
Hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
