Pomezia Light Festival takes us to a smarter, brighter future

From September 21 to 23, the Pomezia Light Festival reaches its second edition. It is a light art event organized by Opificio in collaboration with the Municipality of Pomezia and which, this year, will have as its theme the “Smart City” or the intelligent and ideal city that Renaissance intellectuals and architects already envisioned, hypothesizing a place where harmony and beauty of architecture were married by fusing together aesthetics, functionality and ideals. Pomezia Light Festival aspires to all this by exploring the topic through art and culture. The works of the festival will redesign the streets of the city, neutralizing any distance between artist and user, both leading actors on the common ground of urban space. The goal is to produce art on the territory, for the territory, with the citizenry, going so far as to generate an urban regeneration intervention, i.e., actions of recovery and redevelopment of the pre-existing built heritage.

27 participating artists including 8 international, more than 15 interventions, 1 mile of path for more than 1,000 square meters of light and a section dedicated to artists under 35 funded by Siae SILLUMINA call, more than 50 university and high school students at work.
“The Light Festival returns to illuminate Pomezia,” declares Mayor Adriano Zuccalà. “After last year’s success we are relaunching with Italian and international artists who will transform the City into a modern open-air museum with works, performances, digital and light installations. Last year’s event had 20 thousand attendees, 4 master classes, 30 artists with 14 artistic operations spread across the territory. This year the festival will be divided into three sections: AroundTheCity, dedicated to interventions on the city such as digital performance, live media performance, video theater, video installations, light installations, light art, light design, digital art; EyesUpTower, aimed at exclusively collecting proposals for video mapping or live mapping on the Civic Tower, Pomezia’s flagship; and FunAtBeach, a section dedicated to live performances, with a focus on AV performance, live cinema, VJing.

During the festival there will be meetings, workshops and master classes divided to cover all age groups, with the involvement of experts, scholars and artists. Fulcrum of the activities is the smart village, the structure that hosts the meetings and at the same time a plaza in which to exchange knowledge and experiences.
