Special openings at the Venice Pavilion to give artists a voice and reflect on the future of culture

From Aug. 29 to Dec. 31, 2020, the Biennale is holding special openings to give artists a voice. With the collaboration of Ferzan Özpetek.

Extraordinary openings of the Venice Pavilion in the Giardini are planned from August 29 to December 31, 2020, to give artists a voice. No installations and artworks will be hosted, but meetings and reflections by distinguished guests, invited to share their visions and expectations on the future of culture, will be privileged.

A program that will take place over thirteen weekends, preceded during the week by introductory events, under the banner of exchange and confrontation between different generations. The interior of the Pavilion will feature a kind of living room, with armchairs and tables designed for the occasion by local artisans.

Curatrive Giovanna Zabotti explained that “this is a virtual bridge with next year’s Biennale. The Venice Pavilion takes back its role as the glue between the country’s diverse craft, artistic and cultural realities. An opportunity to imagine and shape a different world and to invite young people to believe in this near future, apparently so uncertain. We started with the idea of not exhibiting works but exclusively giving visibility and voice to artists, facing their world. A design studio then imagined a graphic, a combination of signs recalling the windows of the Pavilion and materialized them into a fabric produced by a local company. In a way, through the voices of these people, we want to convey to young people the idea that it is still always possible to hypothesize and shape a new world and invite them to believe in a near future, different from what we would expect but no less rich in opportunities.”

The project is organized in collaboration with architect Michele De Lucchi and Marilisa Capuano, cultural event planner, and with the special collaboration of Ferzan Özpetek.

In the coming weeks, the list of guests and the full program of the evenings with mandatory reservations will be announced.
